Halo on Vista

Well, I am having trouble installing Halo on Vista.

Okay, this topic doesn't work like this. PLEASE explain your situation a little bit more if you want to get help. That one sentence isn't enough for us to figure out what's wrong.

Alrighty,

This message pops up

[0x000000]E:\Redist\shfolder.exe

And says

"Setup cannot install system files or update shared files if the files are in use. Before continuing, close any open application"

Which I did but, still did not install. The message will appear again.

After many frustrating hours of trying to install the game I finally figured out what the problem was. The game disc was bad and files were corrupt. There was a tiny scratch in the CD (that must have happened during packaging). If I tried to copy the cd using a command prompt and xcopy it would tell me that the file "I:\redist\shfolder.exe" was corrupt. This was the same file that was giving me trouble during installation.

So I took the disc back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a new one. It's really frustrating because the error messages I got didn't tell me a file was corrupt and the idiots at MS Tech Support were actually telling me that I'd probably have to reinstall Windows! Why the **** couldn't they just put the same message about file corruption in the installation package that I got at the command prompt? Sure would've saved me a boatload of time.

Well, I hope this thread helps anyone out who's having the same problem with Halo Installation or DirectX 0.9b.

After googling, I came across this little bit of information.

I would suggest trying to get your disc cleaned. Either use water and a soft paper towel, or go to a store and get disc cleaning stuff.
